Last session at TECH!

Today was sadly my last session of the term with Mrs Sharmap. She does STEM and let me tell you this experiment was COOL! It seems pretty basic but the results are worth it. We got to see water travel through the stem in a plant. In other words Photosynthesis. Once we took out the plant and cut it open the insides were the colour of the water. I worked with Kamryn. By the way if you want to do this just look at the bottom. This experiment was really fun and actually was the BEST! I hope I get to do this again next term! I hope you learn something and that you ENJOY THIS!

Topic 7- Osmosis and Transpiration

Photosynthesis-A process in which plants make their own food.

C02+H20 Sunlight Sugar+02

(Carbon dioxide+water Sugar+Oxygen)

Parts of a Plant

1.Flower

2.Stem

3.Leaf

4.Roots

(Leaf is part of plant where photosynthesis takes place)

Stomata: Tiny parts that help water of Carbon Dioxide

Osmosis: Process that help to move water from the roots to the leaves

Cells in the plants:

Xylem and Phloem

Phloem: helps food to move/distribute to different parts of plants

Celery and food colouring experiment:

Purpose: To see water movement from the roots to the leafs through Xylem

Supplies:

Celery

Water

Food colouring

Cups (Conical Flask)

Scissors

Steps:

Add food colour in water

(10 colours in any order with any cups)

4 celery that have a lot of leafs

Cut off the end parts

Put it in the Conical Flask

Stir the water with the celery just to make sure that the colouring is in good

Optional add plastic bags and a something to tie it with a twist tie

Wait and watch to see what happens

(1 hour 30 minutes then remove it or just as long as you want)

Cut open your celery and take a closer look at the fibre where the Xylem is

(There should be some colour there)

BOOM! They you have it

Doing an experiment at Tech!

Hi guys, so today at tech we did a very cool and interesting experiment. We also got to use some equipment that we had never used before. What we had to do was see the difference with hot and cold. We also got to used sugar as well. We had to see how long it would take for the sugar to dissolve in the different types of water temperature. My partner was Finau and we had so much fun. One thing I liked about was testing the new equipment.  There are some pictures at the bottom on what were the things we used. I can't wait for next week to see what we do next. ENJOY!

Topic 3!

Purpose:

Measure an exact amount of sugar and dissolve in water to make solution

Equipment:

 A weighing machine

A petri dish

Table sugar

Two 200 ml beakers

Water in a pouring container

A pipette

Spatula

Thermometer

Stop watch

Method:

Check the temperature before testing it. Now see if your temperature went down. This is with the cold water. Then  measured 10 grams of sugar. After that get your stopwatch. As soon as you add in the sugar then start your timer.Start stirring the sugar with the water with a spatula. Once the sugar has fully dissolved then you stop the stopwatch.Usually the time would take about 1:30 seconds or around that time. Now repeat the same things with the hot water.

Result:

Temp of the cold water:23

Temp of the hot water:77

Time taken to dissolve in cold water:1:38 sec

Time taken to dissolve in hot water:22 sec

Science for tech

Hi guys, so this is my science work from Thursday. Now I know I am late on posting this, but I just wanted you guys to see what I did. So on Thursday we actually got to see Miss Sharmap for the first time because the week before that she went on a trip. Anyway we learned about some science equipment's and here it is. We also had to list somethings that we could see in the science lab.We also got to do a cool experiment with a partner. I did it with Kamryn. Here is a photo. I HOPE YOU ENJOY IT!

Science!

Hi guys, so this was a science learning for the morning block. We were learning about the biosphere and the geosphere. I actually learn some new things. Anyway I hope we can learn about the hydrosphere and the atomsphere next. Enjoy!
