Reflection of Term 3!

WOWWWW!Well nobody excepted for the term to end off this way. It is really sad that it had to end off this way, but there is still one whole term ahead of us. Anyway's this term has been awesome. Even though we have been in lock down for most of it, heaps of things happened in the first 4 weeks. Things like sports tournaments, sports exchanges, netball season, switching tech classes, extension and more importantly my teacher's new baby. Oh and did I forget to mention that I have been a YEAR 7 FOR 3 WHOLE TERMS!

First up is sports. We have had an amazing netball season. Honestly I have seen my team transformed and have went from being alright to being great. It started off rocky, but once we got some practised we became the players we are now.Even though our netball season was cut short, it was still the best by far. I have seen all my team mates improve from the first game. It has been an amazing experience to play with all these girls and honestly we have grown to becoming friends. Oh and I almost forgot. My AWESOME team which was called the Chiefs included Me,Ema,Kiarah,Matelita,Vika,Atawhai,Kamryn,Luka and Gabby. We were coached by none other then Mr Moran and Managed by Mr Goodwin. I hope that we can come back one last time to play our official final game!

Another awesome thing that happened this term while school was going on in week 2 was we got to have a netball tournament. It was the Eastern Zone Tournament, and for this first time EVER we had a boys team. It was really fun and awesome to play in the tournament. It was also funny and cool to have some extra support from the boys team as well.My team which is the Chiefs came second. Our last game was the toughest game, which was against Baradene. By the way they were really good! They also challenged my team further then ever.Even though we came second it was still good because we got to go to the inter zone tournament, which was happening in Week 5. Well since lockdown happened we couldn't, but I hope to next term if that is possible.

We also got to have a sports exchange with St Kents. They were also a pretty good team. This happened in Week 3. It was an AMAZING experience and we did it along side the Year 8 Queens. We won against them, but what was good was that we were going to verse them in the inter zone tournament. As like before that didn't happen due to lockdown. Hopefully we get to do another sports exchange with them next term or even next year.

Another sport that was supposed to happen was league. We didn't get to play any league games, while at school. Although league didn't happen we did have some awesome and funny training's. I really hope that we get to do league next term, but if not next year is fine.

Now that sport is over on to tech.Tech was one of the most interesting things ever. I didn't expected to do tech online, but I'm glad we did. Even though we switched classes on the second week of lockdown, my new tech class has been a BLAST! I am in Hard Materials with Mr Grundy. I have to say I thought that it would be boring, but it is actually so cool and fun. We do jokes and have a bit of fun. I'm not sure what I want to build yet, but I hope that by the time we get back to school I'll have an idea.

Another class that happened was extension. Extension has really pushed my brain to work and think even harder then ever. This Term for extension we were learning about Olympic Controversial topics. This Term I worked with Kiarah. We were learning about whether athletes should compete for the country they were born in or the country they live in. We also focused on whether transgender athletes should compete the gender they are now or the gender they were born in. The 2 main athletes we were focused on were Lydia Ko who is a golfer and Laurel Hubbard who is a weightlifter. Check out some of my old blog post to find out more.

Last, but not least ,MY TEACHERS NEW BABY. Mrs Stone has finally gave birth to her baby girl. It was sad that we couldn't get to see her in real life, but she did send us a photo. Anyways I hope that Mrs Stone and her husband are doing great and staying safe. I also hope to meet her and her baby when we get back at school!

So you see, even though most of this term was spent in lockdown. Some awesome things still happened. From Sports exchanges to Mrs Stone baby. This just proves that nothing can stop us Pt England Kids from doing what we do best. I am begging that next term which is also the last term. That we still have Film Festival,Our Rainbows End Trip and most importantly PRIZE GIVING. I still can't believe that this is the end of TERM 3! That just shows that time flys. I can't wait for term 4 and whats to come even though it is the last term this year. Hopefully I can blog through the holidays and also its the first of October and ONLY 3 MORE MONTHS UNTIL THE END OF THE YEAR! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Wood Tools!

Today in our google meet for tech we were learning about the wood tools. What I mean is that Mr Grundy gave us a doc to fill in about questions about wood tools. Yes, we did have videos to watch, which I was so grateful for. Anyways, here is the activity and I have to say every time we do these task it makes me actually want to be there. I can't wait for lock down to be OVER so I can start doing my project. Which I can't seem to choose. Remember to STAY SAFE and HAPPY MAORI LANGUAGE WEEK!

Wood tools

Make a copy of this document, name it “Yourname tools” (eg, SioneTools) and share it with me. (grundy@tamaki.ac.nz)

Section One. The Tri square

1   Watch the video in the link below and answer the questions that follow.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnrXEi9_F3M

Q1. In woodwork, the word “square” means at an angle of how many degrees?

Answer.     90 degrees from each other

Q2.  Name the two main parts of the tri square.

Answers. !. Stock. 2,  Blade.

Q3.  Why is it so important to hold the tri square tight against the side of the wood when marking?

Answer.   It is important because if you don't then the line will be drawn cricket and you won’t get the exact angle of 90 degrees!

Section Two.

The Backed saw.

(Often referred to as the Tenon Saw)

Watch the video in the link below and answer the

questions that follow.

(This video refers to a similar sort of joint.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YzzKRB7Y_E

Q1,  Holding the saw with your first finger pointing forward on the handle is called?

Answer. The Pistol grip

Q2.  The back corner of the saw blade is called the Heel and the front corner is called the Toe

Q3.  The wood that we remove to form the trench of a joint is called the waste wood.  Why is it so important to make the sawcut on the waste wood side of the line?

Answer.  Why is because if we don’t cut it on the waste wood side, then our joint would be a loose joint.

Section Three.

The Chisel

Watch the video in the link below and answer the

questions that follow.

(This video refers to a similar sort of joint.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fowuBaqYQFY

Q1,  To chisel out the trench the workpiece must be held firmly in a Vice.

Q2,  The chisel is used together with a  Mallet  cutting uphill toward the centre from each side.

Q3,  We never angle the chisel in a Downwards. direction when removing waste wood.

Q3,  When using a chisel we always keep both hands where?

Answer.

Section Four.

The Marking gauge

Watch the video in the link below and note how the

marking gauge is used to mark the depth of the trench.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfKbYcS4RXo

This video shows a housing joint the same  as the

one that you will make for your project.

Last question!

Why do you think that we mark the depth of the trench with a marking gauge that makes a groove in the wood and not with a pencil line?

Answer.  Because when using a marking gauge you can feel it when you get to the point. When you use a pencil line you don't know when it ends.

Missing Lengths of Right Triangles (Pythagorean)

This is my second task in the topic of Pythagorean. Instead I had to fill in the missing numbers and spot the mistake. As I said before this activity was really fun and cool to do. I am sure now that this topic is my favourite. This really pushed me to my limits. Anyways I hope you enjoy and remember to STAY SAFE and HAPPY MAORI LANGUAGE WEEK!

Te Whare Tapa Whā -Taha Wairua

Malo e lelei. As you know this week is TONGAN LANGUAGE WEEK! So I am so excited about it. Anyways, today in our home class we learned about the Te Whare Tapa Wha. We didn't look at all of them, but we did look at Taha Wairua. Just to make it clear we are learning about all of the sides on its own. Before I go off topic we had to create our own Mihi. I did my own in 2 different languages. One in Maori and one in Tongan. There are videos of me saying it. It was really interesting and fun making my own Mihi. SO there you have it I hope you can remember to STAY SAFE and most importantly HAPPY TONGAN LANGUAGE WEEK!

Advertisement for LAMPS!

Hi, this is my advertisement. This was one of my literacy classes activity. Our task was to advertise something in our own homes. For today I advertise lamps in my house. Yes I do know that this is pretty basic, but that the first thing that came to the top of my head By the way the number is fake, so DO NOT  TRY IT! It is also in stores just wanted to do that because I see those in ads as well. Anyways I have a little challenge for you. See if you can spot the little message in the photo. As we all know Lock down is very hard to get through, but we've all done this one and we can get through it.Anyways I hope you enjoy this and remember to STAY SAFE!

Anxiety writing!

This was my writing task in my reading slide show. This is the anxiety one, but the bullying one is yet to come. I really enjoyed writing this and had loads of fun. I hope that you learn something from this and remember to STAY SAFE!

Feeling nervous, having trouble concentrating and even rapidly breathing. If these things tick the box, then you have anxiety. Yes, I know anxiety is one of life's biggest challenges to overcome. However, what really is anxiety? How do you tell whether you have it or not? What causes it? Or even just some tips on how to control it. In this piece of writing I will be explaining all of those things and giving some tips.

One big question is what really is anxiety? Believe it or not, anxiety is actually a natural alarm for our body. It is also when our body is responding to stress.Stress comes right under anxiety. On the other hand anxiety is when you have a fear of what’s to come in the future. Such as the first day of school or even just doing a speech. If you think about it, usually the day right before big events you're feeling stressed out and having anxiety. For example I remember when my literacy class had to write a speech and present it in front of the class.I was feeling very stressed out because I had no idea on what my topic would be about.

Anyway, how can you tell if you have anxiety or stress. Well as I mentioned before feeling nervous, having trouble with concentration and rapidly breathing are just a few that are symptoms. Another really big one is when you're feeling weak or tired. Also if you are stressed out the symptoms for that is when you have ache pains, chest pains and high pressure. You also need to remember not to jump to conclusions though. Sometimes feeling tired and weak could  just mean that your body hasn’t had enough sleep. So make sure that you don’t just straight up think that you have anxiety.

Another big question is what causes anxiety? Having past life experiences such as traumatic events appear to trigger anxiety disorders in people who are already prone to anxiety. If not that you can actually have anxiety from medical issues. Medical issues including diabetes, heart diseases and thyroid problems can cause anxiety as well.

Finally, what are some tips to help control your anxiety? One really simple thing is to just take some time out. Taking time out in the middle of the day can help out heaps with your anxiety. Also remembering to slowly breathe in and out. Another way to help control it is to limit the amount of caffeine and alcohol that you have. The reason why is because having too much might put you into a panic attack. Even just getting enough sleep and counting to 10 slowly helps as well.

So in conclusion, anxiety is tough to beat, but you can do it. Anxiety can be good and bad, but hopefully after reading this you release a lot about it. I also hope that these tips help out on how to control it. Just remember that anyone in your household has anxiety, remember these tips or go and see a doctor. I hope you learned something by reading this. Always remember that you can OVERCOME ANYTHING THAT COMES YOUR WAY!

Anxiety,stress and bullying task!

Today I worked on my Literacy activity. It was about anxiety, stress and bullying. TO be honest I really like this topic because theirs always something to learn with this topic. Actually I learned heaps about it as well. Just to make it clear about the last slide. Where it says to write about it, I did do it but its on another blog post so check it out. I did them separate as well. I hope that you enjoy this and that you learn something just like me. Always remember to STAY SAFE!

Last STEM session!

Today we finally got to see our tech teachers at Tamaki. The sad part was that it was our last session with them, and of course it would have to be through google meets. Even though it was our last session we made the most of it. For the last session we got to learn about the States of Matter. Which are Solids,Liquids and Gases. Below our task were to take photos or get pictures off google. We needed to get 10 solids, 10 liquids and 10 gases. I'm very sad that we had to do our last session through meets. This term being in STEM/Science was AWESOME! I learned new things. My favourite session has to be when we did our heart rate and the pH one. Hopefully my next tech rotation can be just as good as this one. I just want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to MRS SHARMA for teaching me all of these new things. I wish you the best for your next rotation group. Anyways I hope you enjoy this and remember to STAY SAFE!

Topic 10-States of matter

Notes:

Matter- the substance all things are made of 3 states

   -liquid

-solid

-Gas- water vapor

Liquid state takes the shape of whatever you put it in and its volume always stays the same

Particles are separated and can ,move freely

Solid state is like a thick shape and volume. Particulars are held together in a organised structures

Gaseous state is the steam that comes out of water vapour. It takes on the
